Italian and French Riviera Vacation - May 16th - 27th, 2012

10-Nights With Air - Just $2,389!

While on our last Europe trip I asked the travelers to participate in a vote to help determine where in Europe we would go in 2012 and this was our top vote. Of course it also won't be the only Europe trip we schedule but I do expect it to be popular. We've got great air and hotels lined up that will once again make this a very memorable trip.

We will depart LAX (other gateways are optional) with our group contract on British Airways that will bring us to the airport in Milan, Italy. Our coach will then take us to the coastal town of Santa Margherita. You will love this quaint town nestled in to the hills and the bay not far from Portofino.

Santa Margherita Ligure, called the Perla del Tigullio (Pearl of Tigullio), is a famous, elegant seaside resort, one of the major resorts in the Riviera di Levante, the section of the Italian Riviera east of Genoa. Santa Margherita had a brief moment in the spotlight in the beginning of the 20th century when it was an internationally renowned retreat. Fortunately, the seaside town didn't let fame spoil its charm, and now it's no longer as well known a destination as its glitzy neighbor Portofino. A palm-lined harbor, a decent beach, and a friendly ambience make Santa Margherita a fine place to settle down for a few days of sun, relaxation and a great place to explore some of the other nearby towns such as Cinque Terra, Camogli and Portofino or to just relax and soak up this vacation retreat on the Italian Riviera. We'll spend 3-nights here at a fabulous hotel before moving on to our next destination - Nice.

It might be a cliché to say Nice has something for everyone, but the Côte d’Azur’s cosmopolitan capital pretty much does. Nice is much more than just a place for fun in the sun. Art aficionados’ must-sees include major museums. Archaeological buffs ruminate over the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Cemenelum. Flaneurs ferret out secret passages leading to narrow pedestrian laneways in the romantic old town, lingering over the sights and scents of the colorful flower and produce markets, and trawling for antiques. Gastronomes go gaga over finely prepared food, from chic little bolt holes to family-style French cooking and Michelin-starred cuisine. Barflies flit to the perpetually-buzzing watering holes, and hipsters hop between ever-emerging hotspots.

Now we are in the heart now of the French Riviera for 4 nights and will not only enjoy exploring Nice but will have easy access to some of the most exotic and interesting nearby towns in the world such as Monaco, St. Tropez and Cannes.  The Monaco Grand Prix will be going on May 24th-27th so the world's richest and most beautiful people will be in town making for the best people watching ever!  We'll be setting up optional tours to explore these nearby towns. Our hotel here is right on the waterfront in the thick of all the action.

Our last stop on this incredible trip will be to a smaller town in the Provence area called Arles. Located on the Rhone river, Arles' fame is sealed by the extraordinarily well-preserved Roman arena, Les Arènes, at the city's heart, and backed by an impressive variety of other stones and monuments, both Roman and medieval. It was the key city of the region in Roman times. It's a very interesting and cute, compact Medieval town that will make a great base to explore some of the many ancient towns that are within easy driving distance that we will have optional tours of including the stunningly beautiful Aix-en-Provence, the immaculately preserved town of Avignon that's enclosed by medieval walls, the picturesque Provencal village of Gordes  much favored by Parisian media personalities, film directors and artists; the immaculate preserved villages of Luberon, and the most renowned and populated city in France after Paris, Marseille.

After our 3-nights in Arles we will end another memorable trip and bus to the Nice airport.  This is sure to be another amazing journey.
