Lets explore the Canadian Rockies with this
amazing 10 night itinerary that takes us from Vancouver to Calgary.
We'll spend 2 nights in Vancouver, 2 nights in Victoria (Vancouver
Island), 3 nights in Jasper, 3 nights in Banff, and depart for
home via Calgary.
Our
first stop on our Canada adventure is the coastal seaport city
of Vancouver with its spectacular vistas. Vancouver is a bustling
west coast seaport in British Columbia, is among Canada’s densest,
most ethnically diverse cities. A popular filming location,
it’s surrounded by mountains, and also has thriving art, theatre
and music scenes. Majestic mountains, sparkling ocean, rainforests
and beautiful foliage throughout all four seasons make Vancouver
one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Canadians are
known for our friendly nature, and Vancouver's citizens take
great pride in our welcoming, clean, safe streets - day or night,
all year round. Our hotel is perfectly located to enjoy some
walking tours.
We'll visit Gastown,
the city's oldest neighborhood and designated a National Historical
Site in 2009. Gastown grew from a single tavern founded by John
'Gassy Jack' Deighton back in 1867. Today, the district retains
its historic charm and independent spirit and it's just a 15
minute walk from our hotel. We'll also visit Chinatown,
one of the largest China towns in the world and one
of Vancouver's few distinct cultural historic neighborhoods,
The distinct character of buildings are preserved by a heritage
designation with murals and window art telling the stories of
early Chinese pioneers. We'll venture to Stanley
Park, ranking one of the top 25 parks in the world on
Tripadvisor. We'll explore the 400-hectare natural West Coast
rainforest and enjoy scenic views of water, mountains, sky,
and majestic trees along Stanley Park's famous Seawall. You
can rent
a bike and enjoy the one hour loop around the Stanley
Park seawall. We'll have 2 nights in Vancouver to enjoy the
sites and activities.
Then we will ferry to Victoria from Vancouver for 2 nights.
Victoria is a relaxed, vibrant city on the edge of an island
packed
with spectacular natural scenery. It has a bit of everything
– fascinating history and culture, parks, great food and drink.
Add in a temperate climate, with sunny spring days during our
visit, and a compact and walkable city centre and you’ve got
a perfect 2-day destination. Enroute to hotel, visit the world-famous
Butchart Gardens.
Here, you'll see one of the world's greatest floral displays
in the amazing 55 magnificent acres of flowers and show gardens,
including the Japanese, Italian, and Rose gardens. Our hotel
is perfectly situated in the harbor area where we'll be able
to walk to a number of attractions.
The
next day will be a free day in Victoria. You can join me for
a walk along the waterfront to Fisherman’s Wharf with rows of
colourful floating homes mixed with food stalls, fishing boats
and the occasional friendly seal. On one side are boats gliding
past and seaplanes above coming in to land and on the other
are smart waterside apartments and hotels. From Fisherman’s
Wharf we'll take the water route back to the inner harbour on
board one of the Victoria Harbour Ferries. Old Town Victoria's
cobblestone streets and alleys are best explored car-free, so
taking a walk or ride a bike in the historic center is the way
to go.. Alternately you can opt for a hop
on- hop off sightseeing bus to enjoy other parts of
Victoria or take high
tea at the famous Fairmont Empress Hotel, just a short
walk from our hotel.
After 2 nights in Victoria, we will ferry back to Vancouver
and fly to Edmonton where we will bus to Jasper National Park
for 3 nights. Our hotel there is the phenomenal Fairmont Jasper
Park Lodge.
The
largest of Canada's Rocky Mountain parks, Jasper is famous for
its wildlife, such as elk, moose, deer, coyotes, grizzly bears
and mountain lions, as well as smaller mammals and birds. We
will offer a full day tour included in this package that will
cover the highlights of Jasper
National Park. We'll see Pyramid Lake area which offers
some amazing sights and great chances to see the wildlife of
the Canadian Rockies. The beauty of this area will leave you
breathless! We'll visit Medicine Lake, which exists only during
the summer months when melting glaciers bring water into the
valley. See the tranquil blue color of this glacier formed and
fed lake during this calming wilderness experience. We will
visit the incredibly beautiful Maligne
Lake and have the option to take a boat cruise to the
world-famous Spirit Island. The road to Maligne Lake has some
of the best wildlife viewing in the Canadian Rockies. Look for
mountain goat, moose, elk, bear, bighorn sheep, caribou and
bald eagles. We'll have time to walk along the canyon's trails
with breathtaking views of waterfalls and unusual rock formations.
We'll be working on putting together some optional tours for
our 2nd day here. There are several
river rafting tours that sound beautiful and exciting
as well as taking a ride on the Jasper
SkyTram is highly recommended, as it provides stunning
views over the township and surrounding mountains. The Jasper
Tramway brings you up to an elevation of 2285 meters (7496 feet).
There are also hiking options to bring you to the top of the
mountain where the view is awe inspiring. Another option is
a visit to Miette
Hot Springs, the hottest in the Canadian Rockies, actually
cooled to 39 degree Celsius (102 degrees Fahrenheit).
Our final stop on this magnificent journey to the Canadian
rockies is Banff National Park, where we'll spend 3 days enjoying
some of the country's most picturesque scenery. Nestled in the
very heart of the magnificent Canadian Rockies, the snow-capped
mountains, glistening glaciers and sweeping panoramas are just
one part of the allure of Banff. We'll enjoy the unparalleled
mountain scenery as we explore wondrous Banff National Park,
named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On our way to Banff
we'll stop to visit the massive Athabasca Glacier (weather
permitting) and tour
the Columbia Icefield. We'll learn about the formation
of glaciers, the interesting geological features of the area
and step out onto the surface of the powerful ancient ice.
We'll
take two full day tours in Banff (included in the package) where
we'll begin at magnificent Lake
Louise, a symbol of the quintessential Canadian mountain
scene. Known for its sparkling blue waters, and nestled at the
base of impressive Victoria Glacier, this area is one
of the most picturesque of Banff National Park. Next we'll ascend
by gondola
to the summit of Sulphur Mountain experiencing stunning
views at every turn of six mountain ranges and the village below.
Truly an exhilarating experience!
The next day we'll travel northwest through the lush Kananaskis
Valley (road permitting), a recreational playground and gateway
to the national parks. We'll enjoy a very scenic drive to
Lake Minnewanka ("Water of the Spirits"), a gorgeous
glacial lake in the eastern area of Banff. Then, view freshwater
Two Jack Lake, a mecca for anglers from around the world,
en route to cascading Bow Falls in a valley eroded by
glacier activity. We'll also visit the Cave
and Basin National Historic Site to experience the birthplace
of Canada's national parks and learn about the natural and cultural
history of the mountains. Bring your swimsuit to bathe in the
hot water that seeps from the rocks.
We'll have a relaxing morning on the 28th to enjoy other optional
activities before heading to Calgary for our early evening flight.
This is a completely custom package that you won't find anywhere
else. We were hoping to keep the cost of this trip down but
the hotels and buses were very expensive. Check the rate for
the Fairmont Jasper Lodge and you will find $655 with taxes
per night! But still, for a 10-night trip, with air, at these
very nice hotels, is not bad and certainly better than you will
find offered by any other tour operator.
This trip promises to be another amazing experience with some
of the most beautiful and captivating scenic wonders in the
world.
