We've
got a very exciting week planned for you. Boy, are you going to have a
blast. You can enjoy Maui without spending much money, but as long as
you're on vacation, we do recommend experiencing some of these exciting
excursions. Here are some basic descriptions for the tours that we have
set up. Once you have signed up for the tours you will receive a more
detailed itinerary with directions. We will also have a full itinerary
with dinner plans, happy hours and more that you don't need to sign up
in advance for.SUNDAY:
Scuba Diving: We take our dives from Ed Robinson, the top dive operation
in Maui. Today, we'll visit the Molokini crater, just 20 minutes from
the launch. This is the clearest water, averaging 120-150' in visibility!
Expect white-tip sharks, eels, schools of butterfly fish, and occasionally
manta rays. We may even dive the "Backside Wall" where the crater plummets
vertically to the bottom about 200' below. Rodales' Scuba magazine rated
this site the most popular wall dive in U.S. waters.
Lanai Rafting & Snorkel Adventure:
Start
your week off with a bang! Here's a duel purpose tour where half the fun
is getting to our destination. The Maui Nui is the best raft tour with
plenty of room for up to 36 people, a nice shade canopy and the only raft
with a head (not a bad idea). Their guides are great and the snorkeling
superb. We may spot some dolphins and may even do some wake jumping behind
some of the cattle boats to Lanai. I'll take a photo of you swimming with
turtles! A total blast!
MONDAY:
Haleakala Downhill Bike Adventure: Today, we'll do the crater on bikes.
It's the Summit Deluxe Tour from the Haleakala Bike Company. This is one
of the few companies that is highly professional, yet lets their customers
make their own way down the crater. It's much better that way since you
might want to stop and "smell the roses" (or maybe take some pictures)
along the way. We'll have our own guide along for the ride. This is another
experience that you won't get anywhere else but on Maui. Note: If you
expect to do this trip, pack some warm clothes - sweatshirt and jacket.
Horseback
Riding: Maui is one of
the best places on earth for a horseback ride. It’s very green and
extremely scenic in the West Maui mountains. Today’s ride is with Mendes
Ranch, the largest horse riding facility in Maui. This is a great ride
that will take you through a working ranch with incredible ocean and
mountain views riding right through their cattle. You will be able to run
the horses in a couple of places. It’s a 2-1/2 hour ride that includes
refreshments.
TUESDAY:
Kayak Snorkel: This is a great activity! Today we go kayaking
with Maui's #1 Kayak Tour Company - South Pacific Kayak Adventures! They
have the best equipment and have knowledgeable and personable guides.
We'll snorkel with turtles and maybe even see some dolphins! This tour
starts from a terrific reef at mile marker 14 in the Olowalu area, about
30 minutes just south of us. We'll meet our guides at 8:30 a.m. 3 1/2
hour tour with snacks.
Helicopter Tour: This sure is a great way to see
the island and very special, dramatic, inner island areas which are inaccessible
by ground. There are several helicopter companies to choose from in Maui,
but we voted Sunshine Helicopter and their "Black Beauties" the best.
We'll be doing their "Circle Island" Tour which will give you a complete
air tour of Maui in one hour. From the Haleakala Crater and Hana to the
majestic waterfalls and beauty of Iao Valley and the west side. It's the
best!
WEDNESDAY:
Paragliding:
Feeling adventurous? How about a tandem flight down Haleakala
Crater? Soar like a bird and enjoy one of the most beautiful views as
you do it. We wanted to include this in our itinerary for people looking
for some excitement. Cost depends on how many feet you want to soar. From
an intro. of 1,000 ft for $75 to 4,000 ft for $175. This is a truly unique
adventure you would never forget! Just let us know if you're interested
so we can block some space and you can decide later which flight you want.
Waterfall Hike:
Here's another reason you came to Maui...to get into the tropical interior.
Join us as we trek into a little known area. Our guide, Randy Warner,
is an interesting and knowledgeable guide that can talk about the history
of Hawaii as well as the flora and fauna. We'll either do a Haleakala
Waterfall hike (weather permitting) or a West Maui tropical hike. This
is a great way to meet some new people! This is also the least expensive
half-day hike in Maui!
Scuba Diving:
If you are a certified diver, don't forget your dive card. Maui has some
of the best diving in the world! Today the divers will go to Lanai for
a 2-tank dive to a spot called Cathedral Caverns This is one of the most
beautiful and interesting dives that you will ever do. Sign up for this
trip before you come.
Sunset Sail:
We searched high and low for the perfect boat for this private charter
and we definitely found it with the Teralani. This beautiful boat pulls
right up on the sand to pick us up and hoists the sails for this exciting
2-hour cruise. We'll enjoy a Maui sunset and maybe even spot some dolphins!
The Teralani has a great deck for dancing and we'll crank up some tunes
to get it going! One of the most fun tours you'll do this week. You might
want to do it twice! Includes open bar and pupus. Meet in front of Leilani's
on Kaanapali Beach
THURSDAY:
Molokini Snorkel: This is a great snorkeling experience. With all
the boats doing this tour why did we pick the Lani Kai? Because you want
to power over to Molokini, get in the water easy, and enjoy a nice ride
with fun guides. The Lani Kai is perfect...a very comfortable boat and
the crew are very personable. This is absolutely the best snorkeling in
Maui! This tour will also take in a second snorkel location called "Turtle
Town" where your chances of seeing turtles are very high. Cost includes
buffet lunch and sodas and all snorkel equipment. Lani Kai departs Maui's
Maalaea Harbor slip #78 at 7:00 am.
Marriott Luau: We checked out every Luau in the
Kaanapali area and picked this one because it has the most fun and interactive
and very entertaining. The hula girls (and guys) are beautiful! Come join
us for a memorable evening! Afterward, we'll walk along the boardwalk
and check out some of the other nightlife. It's a great evening! Full
buffet dinner and open bar. Check-in: 4:45 p.m.
FRIDAY:
Hike
or ?: When we get together at our orientation we'll take a vote on
what you'd like to do today. We can throw a beach party, but some of our
groups vote for another option including us leading a hike, beach snorkel
or a historic tour of Lahaina. Whatever the group votes for, we'll lead!
This is our treat!
